Connan Mockasin is the soft-psych project of Connan Tant Hosford, a New Zealander with an androgynous voice who makes remarkable, dreamy pop, and who doesn’t shy away from experimenting. On his album Forever Dolphin Love, he creates a bizarre and complex musical universe with lazy psychedelics, prog rock, space jazz and retro futurism at its core.

A firm believer in DIY-ethics, Mockasin has a clear predilection for the surreal and the absurd. His songs are auditory gems, stuffed with unexpected details at every turn. Pitchfork describes Connan Mockasin’s music as "low-wattage, shuffle-footed, hypna-delic kiwi-pop". Charlotte Gainsbourg already asked him to cooperate on her record Stage Whisper, and Radiohead and The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr are fans as well.

Connan Mockasin & co have an excellent reputation as a live band, which they proved two years ago at Boomtown in Ghent and this year in the Botanique in Brussels. So when Radiohead asked them to tour along with them in Australia and New Zealand it was hardly a surprise. Last year, they recorded a live album in Paris, Live At La Cigale. This autumn, Connan Mockasin will present his new album. Needless to say, we’re very curious about it, and possibly even more so about his tour date at the Handelsbeurs.
