Frame.io Transfer: Download and Upload files, folders and projects
What is Frame.io Transfer?
Download Frame.io Transfer here for Mac and PC
The Frame.io Transfer app is the easiest and most efficient way to upload and download bulk content, large folder structures and entire projects, with the same speed and reliability that you have come to expect from Frame.io. Upload your files and folder structures directly from your desktop into your Frame.io projects; download the original files or choose from multiple proxies.
Active downloads and uploads can be monitored within the app’s transfer queue, where you can also reprioritize items with a simple drag and drop. You can also cancel in-progress transfers or clear previous competed transfers. You can even use industry-standard exchange lists like an EDL, FCPXML, or FCP7XML to download specific files used in your edit.
Users will be prompted to download with Frame.io Transfer when downloading two or more files, an entire folder, or a single file >2GB. The Frame.io Transfer app is currently available for download on both Mac and PC and accessible to users across all account permission levels.
How to use Frame.io Transfer
If you don’t currently have Frame.io Transfer installed, download it from this link, or trigger it in the web app by going to your project settings and selecting the Download All option. Selecting this will prompt you with an option to download the app on your desktop.
Once the Transfer app is installed and you are signed-in, you will have full access to download or upload content across all accounts that you have access to.
Download
To download, select one or more projects, folders, or files within a folder and click the Download button, then select a quality level. The selected assets will immediately begin downloading to your device.
View the status of all active downloads by clicking the Transfers button in the bottom left corner of the app window. If you have desktop notifications turned on (adjustable via the app preferences), you will be notified when the download completes, or when an issue is encountered.
Additional options include canceling a single download, all downloads, or clearing completed items from your transfer history. Right click on an in-progress of complete transfer to open the options menu where you can: reveal an asset’s location within Frame.io, reveal an asset’s location on your device, or view the log file.
Upload
To upload, simply select a project or folder location within the Transfer app’s file manager, then click the Upload button; select the assets you wish to upload to this project or folder then click Select. Alternatively, drag and drop assets from your desktop into the Transfer app; uploading will begin. The status of uploading files can be viewed by clicking the Transfers button. Each upload batch can be tracked, reordered or cancelled.
Log files
A log file containing the status and progress of each asset within a batch will be created with every upload and download. To access the log file, right click on any in-progress or complete transfer. If viewed in progress, the log will update in real-time with the upload/download. The log file will be saved in the same location as the selected file and can be adjusted on or off via the app preferences.
EDL Support
The Frame.io Transfer app also offers selective download support for EDL, FCPXML and FCP7 XML files to help you find and download your assets on Frame.io more efficiently. If you've previously exported an EDL, FCPXML or FCP7 XML from your preferred NLE, Frame.io Transfer can download all linked assets directly from your selected project or folder, without you having to search and download assets manually.
To enable this, click on the Set Download List button located at the bottom of the app window (next to the Upload button), select your EDL, FCPXML, or FCP7 XML file, then click Download. All linked assets within your list will start to download automatically. A log file is also created when the download begins, indicating whether files have been found, failed, retried, or successfully downloaded.
