Hello everyone

Here is my review of VENOM, as promised. There is already a very long thread about it here http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......orum=218 but here I will try to give all the information you need. I am not affiliated with the creators in any way although I really love Arthur's work so far. This is my first experience with Magie-Factory.

## What is it ?
VENOM is a mechanic ITR (as in no battery, only moving parts) built with two goals in mind : versatility and usability. It is in essence a very classic ITR concept which has been refined in every aspect to get rid of all the problems we faced with ITRs.
It is also a partnership between Arthur Chavaudret and Magie-Factory. Introducing a new product needed a performer who had adopted it and who brings new ideas and concepts. Arthur delivers many effects of his own, requiring the use of two VENOMs at the same time. This is why you get two ITRs for that price.
The main thing is the ITR in itself. It means that if you don't like the effects taught, you still have a great ITR you can use like before.
Apparently the IT provided is not on the marked yet.

## What do you get ?
- You get a small black drawer-style box with two VENOMs in it. It is the size of a poker deck box.
- A small hook to help changing the elastic which is the "motor" of VENOM.
- A spare elastic (different kind from the ones in use, everything is explained in the video)
- A thank-you card with links for french and english instruction videos. The videos are downloadable in various qualities and viewable directly online. You get in fact 6 videos : the explanations, assembly & adjustment, linking of the two venoms, tips, making of, and trailer.

## What effects are taught ?

All the effects (if not told otherwise below) are performed with the same, two ITRs hook-up. All of the effects are provided with a performance video, a detailed explanation and a over-the-shoulder shot. Everything is very well filmed. Most of the effects seem to require IT coming from your chest.

- VENOM : first you get a 11 minutes course on how VENOM works and why it is built like it is. Every detail matters in the design, this is really beautiful thinking. The parthership is explained as well. You will feel the quality and research brought to you.

- Time stop : a ring is borrowed and while handled very naturally, it stops in mid-air when falling from one hand to the other. Arthur insists on the fact that it is a time-stop and not a levitation. There is also a part where the ring goes back up, reversing the fall. I found the reverse fall not easy to learn, but I'm nearly there.

- Time stop (spectator's hand) : the same effect but with the ring falling in the spectators hand. You need to choose the right spectator for this and use it in optimal conditions because you are up-close.

- Time stop (heavy ring) : another handling of the time stop for heavier rings. Learn it, you'll be able to do the time stop in many more situations.

- Flying ring : maybe the easiest thing in the world. You'll do it all the time ! A borrowed ring floats from one thand to the other, while separated from 50-70 centimeters.

- Ring on index finger : This is a hard one. The ring is tossed from under your stretched-out index finger and slides on it. Great follow-up for Garrett Thomas' Ring-Thing.

- Heavy objects : How to move heavy objects on a table with the same hook-up. You won't make a brick move, but it is full of possibilities.

- Haunted deck : WOW ! The version I was waiting for ! Deck seemingly shuffled and handled by the spectator, very natural movements, can be done standing, seated, on a table, in the hands of the spectator, and after you are set to actually make the deck move, you can still dribble the cards to show everything is normal. I would have bought VENOM for this effect alone !

- Linking ring : not my taste, but I love the creativity of it. Perform a linking finger ring effect with two borrowed rings. A bit ballsy.

- The "cross concept" : an idea for informal situations to make small and flat objects float in front of you (examples with a card and a ring). They will litterally "sit" in mid-air. Confidence required ! The clean-up is what will make you want to try.

- Light glass movement : A small plastic glass moves on the table when you ask it to because it is in the way for you next trick. Super fun ! This requires a special hook-up. I will not explore this for now.

- Table hook-up : I will not use this but it is a simple hook-up used to make light objects fall. There is even a mentalism effect where the only object left standing is the one chosen by the spectator... or fall when the spectator asks the object to. Your hands don't move when the fall occurs... this sells the whole effect. It made my mind spin, I might work on effects like this but with the standard body hook-up instead.

- Indirect thread use : ideas for usign the ITRs in effects where the IT is not floating or moving (like in the linking rings effect). You can make a ring appear in your hand under a glass, or transforming in mid-air a ring into another one while tossing it on the table. This is crazy, creativity at it's best.

- Floating ring : different hook-up, only one ITR, very similar effect (not the hook-up though) to an effect in Sci-Fi Project by Xiang Liu. This has been created by a friend of Arthur.

## Key points ?
- Using two ITRs is actually a lot easier than using only one. Trust me, I know it sounds counter-intuitive.
- Very secure when in stand-by mode. IT is ready to use and when released it comes back to stand-by mode by itself.
- Very customizable. Change any part at will. You can change the IT, the elastic, so it fits your needs.
- You will giggle like a kid the first time you pull the IT out. It is SMOOTH !
- Reset is quick in case of breakage.
- You can lock a specific amount of IT to come out. It helps control a certain length if needed but also helps resetting in case of breakage.
- You can use safety pins or crocodile clips if required although hot glue is needed. The creators don't recommend doing it.
- Arthur worked really hard on the handling to destroy the idea there is IT in use. The IT is in and out quickly, almost always moving, and every movement is justified. He teaches ho to blend any "technical move" into "real-life" or "motivated" movements. This is one of the highlights for me : it makes you want to use IT.
- VENOM is very smooth and using two of them is what gives you a freedom of movement you never had before with IT.

## Thick IT much ?
Yes, but no. It is thicker but it is still IT. Regular IT rules apply. One of the main features being customization, change the IT and change the elastic according to the IT you chose (tension matters a lot). Then you do your own effects. I don't understand why some are complaining about the thickness. This IT works well and was chosen for many reasons taught in the videos, the main one being versatility. Remember they didn't sell you IT, they sold you an ITR. If you want to change it, I recommend to keep it for a while, for training purposes. Otherwise you will break often or blame the product... when it's actually your fault.

## My experience & feedback so far !
- I would advise watching the whole videos (and all of them) before trying wild things. Many tips are taught along and you might miss important ones.
- I did not watch the english version, only the french one so I cannot tell you anything about the translation.
- Yes you need a jacket or thick shirt that is open in front. I would not use a hoodie with a zipper. I would not use my jeans pockets although it is possible.
- I broke the thread once so far, it litterally took me a couple minutes to get ready again.
- I have trouble whenever I pull the IT out but downwards ouf of VENOM : it gets stuck easily that way. Don't do that, if you are set up properly this never happens.
- It took some time, trial and error to get to "know" these ITRs. You need to experiment with them and customise them to your needs.
- I had trouble when the two venoms were not set with the same tension. Keep an eye on that. One ITR might "eat" the IT out of the other one meter after meter. Keep the same tension on both : look in the long holes, the elastics must have the same shape & look.
- Making the ring go up the IT in the time stop effect is NOT easy. It took me some training to get a hang of it, and I had to find some tips that were not taught and understanding what I was doing wrong.
- If you tie a knot on your ring it is not easy to undo it (IT knot... yay !). To save you some trouble, just tie the VENOMS again together under the ring and cut the ring loose. You'll loose a couple inches of IT but it will save time and frustration !
- I often adjust tension with the botton cap because it is easier when the VENOMs are tied together.
- when the top cap is off, hold your IT ! Otherwise you will get to wind up everything again.
- Trial and error is your best friend... don't listen too much to me, try & fail !

## Where to buy ?
France : http://www.magie-factory.fr/fr/nos-produ......eel.html
International : http://www.ellusionist.com/venom-by-magie-factory.html
Refills (IT + parts) seem to be coming soon on the french website here : http://www.magie-factory.fr/fr/accueil/5......nom.html

## Conclusion
I am using this. This is the utility I have been waiting for, the one I feel secure wearing the whole night. I cannot be more thankful for this. Everything is made to push your creativity forward. It you like IT, this will not end in a drawer. I did not use IT for a very long time because I find it unpractical. VENOM is the tool that got me back into... IT (#badjokealert).
I will do my best to get filmed in real conditions, but I need more time for that.
If you disagree with any part of the review, speak up below !
If you got one too, feel free to PM me to exchange ideas !

Really, I hope this review helped you in some way.

If you watch closely, one guy in the videos uses safety pins without needing to glue anything. He has two safety pins pinned horizontally in his jacket an inch or so apart and slides the Venom clip vertically down through the two clips. Easy.

This is good advice but it's taught in the videos.

I don't understand how this is easier, the only way you could have issues adjusting the tension while the Venoms are tied together is if you try to twist the caps. Just twist the entire Venom except for the cap, as taught, and there are no issues as far as I can tell.

@Magic KL : Thank you !

I forgot something : there is also a nice effect in the "heavy objects" sections where you can make an object fall in your hand or to the table but slowly. The object must have a ring or hole shape because it uses the same setup as the ring effects. Using this, a borrowed set of keys on a keyring can fall in slow motion. This looks really nice, is easy, and very credible.

Hello Louis and thank you for your thoughts and reviews on this item.

I have just one question before my purchase: it seems all the effects are on a horizontal level. Are there any chances to do any other levitation/animation effects such as rising cards, etc, so they are on a vertical level? It is one of my favourite effects with the traditional ITR's.

I know you have said you can use them as a more conventional ITR but just to know your thoughts about it.

Thank you again for your comments and time.

Regards,

I do not know what version of this effect you are doing but it you say it should work with any classic ITR, then it should work for venom. I don't see any effect you can do with a traditional ITR that you cannot do with venom.

I don't really understand the "only horizontal" statement because many routines described are vertical in the video, the obvious one being the ring time stop.

Glad you enjoyed the review
Cheers!

Thank you Louis for your feedback in this and your comments.

I focused on the horizontal movements of the effects without realizing about the ring drop and rise. Sorry for that.

Well, mine one is on the way!!!

Thanks for your time.

I'll say for me, the 100lb test thread, I'll call it, is even more visible, by an order of magnitude, than Fearson's Vectra X2 Stage thread. I Had to change it out. My Performance conditions are not forgiving enough for that stuff. I put on regular Vectra, no issues. Didn't even change the elastic...

Now, I changed the elastics, too many thread breaks when releasing the thread. So, I suppose it is necessary when changing to Vectra.

Thank you for this review! Great to hear you're so inspired. I have a question: do you know Spooked and how would you compare this to the Haunted Deck version of Venom?
Please check regularly if you are becoming the type of magician Jerry Seinfeld jokes about. (This applies to mentalists as well.)
