In any design, typography is key. Handcrafted, clean, minimal or full of fancy text effects, type literally tells the story that you are trying to tell. I have browsed the web and collected a list of free text effect PSD downloads for Photoshop. I have selected text effects that are actually usable in today’s industry. The level of commercial usage may vary, so be sure to check out the original creator’s license. 

For those of you that are unsure what a text effect is. Open Photoshop, type something using the type tool, right click on the type layer in the layers panel and hit that blending options key. Play around with some of the options in there. You now have made a text effect. You could take it further with Smart objects, multiple layers, and textures, like some of the downloads below. If you’re interested in all that, check out this list of text effect tutorials.
