Anyone who signs up with pCloud instantly gets 10 GB of free storage. If you invite your friends to join, you can 1 GB for each one. A total possible space of 20 GB can be used for free with pCloud after all bonus options.

File Sharing With pCloud

Though shared files and folders can't be protected with a password, there are still some great features when it comes to involving others with your pCloud files.

There are two ways to share folders from pCloud.

The first is for public access. You can create this type of link for any of your files from both the website and the pCloud mobile app. The app lets you send these links to others over SMS, email, Twitter, and Facebook. Recipients don't need a pCloud account to open these types of links and they can even download all the files in ZIP form.

You can also invite other pCloud users to view and access a folder from your account. You can give the recipient read, create, modify, and/or delete access to the folder. This type of folder share can be initiated from the website, desktop program, and mobile app.

There's another way to share folders with recipients but it's a bit different than the regular method. Instead of sharing the files in the folder, you're instead sharing the folder space. This means you can build a link for one of your folders to make it accessible to the public, allowing anyone to upload files to your pCloud account. This is a bit like Mediafire's FileDrop feature.

You must set the maximum number and size of files that are allowed to be uploaded to this type of folder, which is ideal to prevent your account from filling up with public files.

When an upload folder URL is created, a unique email address is also displayed to the public when they access the page, which can be used to send files directly to the account through email.

While folder sharing has the above options, files can only be shared one way, which is with the public (non-registered users). Shared file URLs can be shortened to a small link for easier recall.

pCloud Applications

You can access your pCloud account from the mobile app for OS or Android as well as from a Windows, Mac, or Linux operating system through pCloud Drive. You can also save online files directly to pCloud with the pCloud browser extension.

You can use the desktop application to share and manage folders with other pCloud users like described above, and view/edit the folders that have been shared with you. You can also limit the amount of disk space it's allowed to use up on your computer as well as put a cap on the upload and download speed to manage bandwidth usage.

The desktop program for pCloud also lets you view all your shared links and add sync folders so you can keep your local files stored on your online account.

The mobile application is built very well, giving you access to every feature the website offers. This means you can do everything the website can do: filter your files by type, manage shared links, share new files and upload folders with others, search through your account, create favorite folders, view recent activity, etc.

Offline files can be enabled from a mobile device by adding it as a favorite, which then downloads the file locally and makes it accessible even if you don't have an Internet connection.

You can also turn on automatic uploads from the mobile app, which enables all your photos and videos to be sent to your pCloud account without any intervention on your part.

Thoughts on pCloud

If it's not already obvious, we find pCloud to be an excellent free cloud storage service. Allowing up to 20 GB of free space and complete control over your account from the mobile app certainly makes it a favorite of ours.

We also like the social media backup feature. With Facebook, for instance, we were able to immediately connect it to pCloud without any issues and begin backing up some or all of the Facebook albums rather smoothly. It even kept the folder structure intact by categorizing the images in their respective directories.

Another feature we like is that the online media player automatically gathers together all the music in any given folder and plays them continuously. Similar file storage websites that support media streaming will let you stream only one music file, not a whole folder of them.

Advanced file sharing options would be a plus for sure, but we think it's made up for in neat features like public folder access and ZIP archive downloads.
