Windows 10 Education is now the preferred version of Windows 10 for Queen’s University.
With agreements in place with Microsoft, Queen’s-owned and Student-owned computers are now licensed for Windows 10 Education.
There are a number of reasons behind this decision.
- The Education version has all the same functionality as the Enterprise version.
- Enhanced security features including:
- The ability to encrypt your entire system (Bitlocker)
- The ability to control privacy settings
- Computers with Windows 10 Education operating systems can be added to Active Directory
- Updates and major releases can be controlled
- One common version to address both home and work-based computers that require encryption
- Easy upgrades from Home, Pro and Enterprise versions of Windows 7, 8.1, 10 (older versions will require a full installation)
- Easy transfer from existing Enterprise license of Windows 10 to the Education license
Staff and Faculty
- Can upgrade to Windows 10 Education by downloading it from MyQueen’sU.
- New Dell standardized builds will now be shipped with the Education version of Windows 10.
- Personally-Owned Computers
- Personally-Owned Computers do not qualify for Windows 10 Education
Students
- Students can obtain Windows 10 Education to install on their personal computer from QueensU.OnTheHub.com
- Windows 10 Education is available for free for students.
- Registration with an @queensu.ca based email address is required.
- Support for downloads and installation is available through OnTheHub.com.
- It is a perpetual license
- ITS Support is available for active Queen's students
- Only one copy of Windows 10 Education per person is available through OnTheHub.com.
