Chrome recognizes all download links as html files 1 Recommended Answer 17 Replies145 Upvotes
Chrome recognizes all download links on all web pages as html files, usually as "download.html". If I try to use the right click "save link as..." option, it just downloads a useless tiny html file. I must now use Firefox for downloading all web links because of this. How can I fix Chrome so on-page links point to the real target file rather than just another html link? Thanks!

I removed free download manager from Chrome extensions. Right click on the small icon near your profile picture, (it is a blue arrow pointing to the right) then choose to remove from chrome.
That solved the issue for me.

Same problem. A painful workaround is to open the download link in "incognito". Still looking for a solution to fix it.
