How to download old versions of teddy ruxpin - absolutely not
Teddy Ruxpin is back as Ruxpin 2.0, whether you think he's creepy or cool
Teddy Ruxpin was a trendsetter as the first animatronic toy with motorized eyes and mouth when he launched in 1985.
Now he's back to entertain and inform a new generation as Ruxpin 2.0.
All you had to do was pop in a cassette tape (remember, this was 1985), and Teddy would tell you a tale.
"Kids adored Teddy Ruxpin so much that he became a multi-billion dollar product in five years," Jeremy Padawer, who is co-president of Wicked Cool Toys, the company behind Ruxpin 2.0, told CNN Money.
Now, those kids are parents. And those parents can introduce Teddy Ruxpin.
"We felt the time was right to bring back this nostalgic toy but with the right technology to fit the time," Padawer said.
So what's new with Ruxpin 2.0? Well, the tape player is gone. Instead, he has an internal hard drive with 10 stories. You can download more. And his blinking eyes are replaced with color LED eyes that show 40 animated expressions. The expressions reflect the stories. Old Teddy blinked and looked around, but his vision was limited. Ruxpin 2.0's eyes show stars, snowflakes and hearts. He also has touch sensors in his paws that allow even the littlest kids to control a story.
How much? $99. But he won't be in stores until July 2017.
Consumer reaction is mixed between nostalgia and fear. Mostly fear.
So what do you think? Will you buy the Ruxpin 2.0?
